Birelart shows improving competitiveness at the FIA Karting Round in Mülsen
Birelart finished the penultimate round of the FIA Karting European Championship for the OK and OKJ categories in Mülsen with strong and improving performances.
OK – Strong performances from Ivannikov and Mazzola
After showing good speed during the Champions of the Future weekend, both Ivannikov and Mazzola continued to perform well. In wet conditions, Ivannikov qualified second in his group, later moved to fourth because of track limits. He consistently finished in the top ten during the heats and the Super Heat. In the Final, he had to avoid a big accident at the start and lost positions, but fought back well and finished seven places higher than where he was after the incident. Mazzola also had a positive qualifying session. Although some heats were more difficult, he showed excellent pace in the final races. He won one heat and gained ten positions in another. An unlucky retirement in a previous heat stopped him while he was fighting for third place. In the Final, he recovered fifteen positions. It was a more difficult weekend for Sala (CL Racing Team) and Sharp (Var by Birel). Both showed top-ten pace during the heats but were affected by racing incidents and a technical problem in the Super Heat, preventing them from qualifying for the OK Senior Final.
OKJ – Rea and Morales on the attack
The third FIA Karting round showed clear progress for the Birelart Junior drivers.
Achille Rea was again among the fastest drivers in qualifying, finishing in the top five of his group. Apart from one retirement in the first heat, he consistently fought for top-ten positions throughout the weekend.
Morales had to recover after a difficult qualifying session. He made steady progress in the heats and especially in the Super Heat, where he gained twenty-three positions and finished inside the top ten. Legenkyi had an unlucky weekend. He showed good speed in the wet conditions but suffered several retirements, including one after a racing incident and contact with the barriers, fortunately without consequences. Julia Angelard also fought hard and gained ten positions in two of the weekend’s heats.
The Birelart Racing Team will return to the Circuito Internazionale Napoli in Sarno for the final round of the FIA Karting European Championship KZ and KZ2 from 2 to 5 July.
