Lonato Super Master: Birel ART dominates KZ2 and takes a podium in OK WSK
One week after the opening of the 2024 season, Birel ART achieved even better results in the face of tougher competition at the first round of the WSK Super Master Series on the same Lonato circuit.
The weather was still very cold at South Garda Karting, but there was plenty of sunshine and the track remained uniformly dry. Most of the top teams were able to compete in good conditions throughout the competition.
Cristian Bertuca led the KZ2 team brilliantly through to the Final with three heat wins and victory in the Prefinal. He led from start to finish in the Final before winning by a wide margin. Daniel Vasile, who won two heats before retiring, completed a winning double for Birel ART Racing with a very convincing end to the meeting. Pedro Hiltbrand spent a long time in 2nd place before finishing 6th and Matteo Vigano (CL) made up 11 places by finishing 9th. In their first race with Birel ART, brothers Samuel and Jean Luyet finished 11th and 12th in the Final standings, giving the Lissone-based brand six karts in the top 12. Matheus Morgatto and Samuele Leopardi were unfortunately not rewarded with results to match their speed due to bad luck.
Ean Eyckmans was one of the protagonists of the OK category, managing to reach the podium thanks to a decisive overtake on the last lap. Noah Wolfe (VAR by Birel) proved to be very competitive. Delayed in his third heat and then in the Prefinal, he moved up 15 places to 16th in the Final, just ahead of Mees Houben, who had moved up 23 positions since Qualifying. Ludovico Busso made good progress, particularly in the Final where he made up 13 places.
In the Mini U10s, David Moscardi once again put in some excellent performances. He was unlucky in the Final, however, falling back to 35th place in the second lap from 4th. He made up some of his lost ground and regained eight places for honour. Senn Lindeman also had a very good pace until the Final, when his success didn't continue.
The Birel ART staff were justifiably satisfied with the performances of the second weekend of racing at Lonato: "Of course, it's always a pleasure to win a race", declared Ronni Sala, President of Birel ART, "Bertuca lived up to his talent and our expectations. The double with Vasile showed the effectiveness of our 2024 equipment. I congratulate the technical team on their excellent work. Eyckmans' OK podium was the reward for a good dynamic between the driver and the team. The new organisation with Riccardo Longhi in charge of the KZ categories and Jordon Lennox-Lamb in charge of OK is off to a very good start, and being competitive right from the start of the season in KZ2 and OK is a strong sign that motivates everyone at Lissone, especially as our Minis are also in the mix. We're going to take advantage of this favourable situation to continue developing our competitiveness and tackle the long programme of races ahead of us with confidence."
Birel ART Racing will now draw lessons from these first two competitions in preparation for the second round of the WSK Super Master Series at Cremona in less than two weeks' time.
